Holdover from Camp

Things are going well. There hasn't been much to write about. Life's going on fairly normally. Dumping money on groceries, starting to get into a routine of classes and work.

The best thing thus far is the Tactics Club. In years past, we've never had a whole lot of luck with getting new members. This year however, before our activities fair, we had four new people. After it, and due to some posters, we have almost fifteen new people. It's amazing, because now, we can actually do things. Stuart (our VP) and I have set up a meeting plan, and several new officer posts to get people to do things, and I've already started a game with the freshmen, as well as started planning a second due to demand.

It's nice to also walk into a room, ask who's a Firefly fan and have everyone raise their hands.

Edit: 10:30 pm - The campus is locked down. Apparently, there was a threat against a student's life earlier today. While I was in a geology tutoring session, security came in and told me that I had to leave and lock up. Not sure what the full story is, but it's really weird.

In other news - Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip is worth a lot of the hype that's been thrown it's way. Good show to keep an eye on.

Closing Out

We had our last meeting of Tactics for the year, and most likely my last meeting ever in Harmon Hall. For the next two years, it'll be renovated and revamped so that it's better, but I won't be around when that happens. We spent the entire time on a proper meeting, something that hasn't happened in a while, going over plans for the next semester, recruitment, events and games, and for once, we're on good footing, for now. After the meeting, we played Risk while watching Stargate SG-1 and Dr. Who, for a grand total of about 4 hours. No one won in Risk, although we did pinch Stuart out of Europe before deciding that we really didn't want to spend another four hours trying to dislodge each other off of our respective continents. After we finished taking over the world, we began our close out of the club room. All of our games, books, materials and even the paper from the wall listing some club things (that predate my entrance to the club) all went into my car. None of us really trust Norwich to take care of our things, given that they're ours and expensive, and the risk of losing it all is just too much. So now it's sitting in my room.
Along with the games, I'm slowly emptying my shelves of books, packing away the ones that I'll be bringing with me when I move out sometime this summer. Kyle and I signed for the lease for 46 Catamound Drive, Northfield, and I'll be out of the house, finally. Currently, I've got three boxes of books, and it'll probably be a total of five. Plus my computer, bookshelves, desk, couch, chair and clothing, and I'll be on my way somewhere else.
It's odd to come back home and to begin packing for a new one so soon. After I move into my apartment, I'll be off to Camp once again, and I'll have most of my things with me there, my computer and clothing at least.
I've picked up a couple books in the past week or so. First one is The Map That Changed The World: William Smith and the Birth of Modern Geology, by Simon Winchester. Facinating read, provides a good look at England in the 1800s, through the results of the Industrial and Agricultural revolution, something that I learned a lot about while in London. The geology part is also facinating, although I haven't gotten too far into those sections yet. The other book is Shopgirl, by Steve Martin, the actor. I've read one of his other books before, and they're quick reads, this one being no exception. Frankly, it's really depressing, none of the characters are terribly likable and it's gotten me into a sour mood. Not a bad book though, so I'll finish it later tonight. I think that I see myself and some other people too much in the characters, and that's what's gotten me down a bit.
I took a drive earlier when I dropped my sister off for some church thing that she's doing. I've found that it really helps clear my head at times. The lighting was great on the way back home, sun was just setting, and the roads were empty. Very lonely, matching my mood perfectly. I need a distraction.

Whiteouts and Meetings

I had a very busy day yesterday - Up to Burlington and back, a couple trips around Central Vermont, through all types of weather.Had Math at 9 to 10 and we finally got to things that I actually understand - some geometry and things that I can remember in high school. From there, I drove up to Burlington. My friend Rachel had finished her senior thesis project up at UVM, and was presenting it before a committe of teachers there. She invited me up a couple of weeks ago. So I went up and walked around Church Street for a while, then walked up and met up with her at UVM. I didn't get lost while I was up there, which was a plus, given all the construction that they have on campus there. The presentation went over very well, I think. I'm not entirely sure if I completely understood everything that she was talking about, because it's biology, and I haven't had a bio class for years. But she got through it well enough, and we waited outside for her and the committee to talk privately, while I talked with her roommate for a while. She came out pretty happy and relieved, and we went had some refreshments. I left a little later because I was afraid of getting a ticket where I was parked, (Fortunently didn't get one) and headed home. While I passed Waterbury, I stopped off and visited Eric, who'd just gotten up. We talked for a while and decided to hang out for the afternoon. We drove off to the Berlin Mall and walked around there for a while, then got dinner, headed to Norwich for the Tactics meeting that we had. It actually went over well, with some games locked down for the future, some procedures for those games and some other things like that. Probably one of the most successful meetings that we've had in a long time, which I was really happy about. Then went over to the Library with Eric to show him the Pirates of the Caribbean 2 trailer (Now online at http://movies.yahoo.com) and then we headed home, where we hit a bit of a whiteout. Visibility went down to almost zero and we had to really show down. We got to Waterbury okay, but I ran into troubles as I got home. Backroads were okay, if slightly slippery, but the big hill a couple miles from my house was immpassble and I started spinning about halfway up and couldn't make it to the top. I had to back down a mile or so, almost going into a ditch, and turned around, went back through Montpelier and got home almost an hour later. Wee!
